Chemistry Ph.D. Student Turned Her Thesis Into a Comic Book

Mention the word “quasicrystals” and everyone will immediately know what you’re talking about, right? Probably not. University of Wisconsin-Madison chemistry Ph.D. student Veronica Berns recognized this conundrum when she began working on her thesis. Berns wanted to share her work with friends and family, but she struggled to find an accessible way to do so. Eventually, she decided that the best way to explain these divergent crystals was to diverge from the normal thesis form herself– and thus her chemistry comic book, Atomic Size Matters, was born. (Source)

Should’ve Known Better

I can’t believe that last night happened. I made a lot of bad decisions because I was trying to run away from reality. It didn’t work and I’ve crashed back down in an explosion yelling Fuck. I’ve hurt many because they finally realized I’ve been hurting myself. I hurt myself by telling people I love me when I don’t. I thought if I said it enough it would come true. But when letting go of all your cares and worries always causes trouble, you’re not supposed to truly let go of all faculties. You’re supposed to think of consequences and make the right choice. Even though I didn’t I understand what I did wrong. I accept everything and I’ll be okay soon.
